Student Leadership

At the core of Virginia-Snider is student Leadership. Students have the opportunity to make a difference right where they live, even as a first-year student. Whether it is with Commons Council, partnering with your Faculty in Residence, or organizing a trip or program, take action! Before you know it, the year will be over. Check out some of the opportunities below.

Partner with your Fir

Dr. Ann is always looking for students who want to share their passions with their peers.  She wants to partner with student initiatives to make them an experience for the entire community. This looks different every year.  It could be bringing in one of your favorite professors for a dinner discussion, or sharing your idea for a student club or organziation that does not exist, yet, or creating a discussion series around your favorite movie, TV show, or podcast.  She has the funds and connections to make your ideas reality.

Email Dr. Ann Batenburg (abatenburg@smu.edu) to start the conversation!

When you move-in, ask about Commons Council! This is the heartbeat of the community.  Commons Council organizes the programs and community activities, in addition to applying for funds to improve physical aspects of the building. They also plan some of our traditions such as VieSta and participating in Homecoming activities. One of the signature events of Commons Council is the Residential Commons Games, where each Commons competes in an evening of competitions in order to earn points for the Commons Cup.

Email VS President, Noah Wells (nawells@smu.edu), if you have any questions about getting invovled.
